PG-13/16 for some violence, sex, language, darkness, etc.; official series website

Damn. I really liked the beginning of this series–it was touching, dramatic, and beautifully insightful as to the creative process of a young person–but like most of Saki Hiwatari’s stuff, she just couldn’t quite keep things together. A few volumes in and the pacing becomes a mess, interspacing boring scenes with scenes that impart way too much information at once. There’s also MUCH too much happening in the dialogue and not enough happening in the actual plot. Anyway, this is the story of a boy whose personal fantasies of might and magic are a throwback to actual power he doesn’t realize he has; it’s a provocative premise, and there’s definitely good to be found in it. Just be warned that it can’t always tell its story well.

Educated impression: Beware…but it’s still okay, so I’m sure some people will like it. (Lianne)
