PG-13 for violence and mild sexuality/nudity; official series website

Talk about a manga that fails on every level. Muhyo and Roji’s Bureau of Supernatural Investigation is a horror comic that isn’t scary, a mystery series that doesn’t make sense, and a magical action series where every enemy is defeated in a one-hit deus ex machina. The two main characters are annoying and bland, and there’s a plot mechanism in place to keep any interesting side characters from joining for more than a chapter. I hate to judge first volumes this harshly — many great manga series start out slow or sloppy — but I can’t imagine a reason to read volume two.

Initial impression: Don’t bother. (NotHayama)

I, however, disagree whole heartily. I read all my life- I mean it, and as such, I feel that I have the ability to tell you that you are wrong. The characters have a real feel to them, the world around them is like a glove, fits. The mystery makes sense, (And horror doesn’t have to be mass slasher, I’m getting that vibe from you, forgive) me you clearly are bias on such things. It was a beautiful start, and it moved me to tears. You claim not to judge harshly, and yet you have. The second one has a very develpoed plot, the characters are deep- the third is alwso very good, and I’m looking forward to the fourth. Thank you.
