Minami-Ke Mini Review (anime)

minamike.jpg
PG-13 for mostly tame romance and humor and stuff; informational website

Blech. The beginning of this anime tells the audience: “This is the story of three sisters. Please don’t expect much.” You know your anime sucks when your tongue-in-cheek self-deprecation can be taken in complete seriousness. This show is boring, pointless, unlikable, and stupid. I think it’s one of those seinen “moe” serious–like Azumanga Daioh–where half the joy is its older male audience just basking in the girly, and whereas I can understand that, DO NOT go to this show for your moe. There must be moe out there that isn’t entirely comprised of slow-paced, lame jokes and dialogue so bad I nearly punched the television. There were definitely a few jokes in here that COULD have been funny, but the show is so poorly executed, they ended up being barely amusing. The animation quality is nice enough, I guess? That’s all I can say in this show’s favor. There’s also a manga for this series, but I refuse to read it.

Initial impression: This show can go to hell. (Lianne)

You know, you and your colleagues have become incredibly bitter and devoid of any ability to appreciate small, simple-minded things for what they are.

What exactly do you like nowadays? Probably shit that no one else likes.

Are you kidding? I loved every second of Sexy Commando. There’s a difference between “simple-minded” and “not any good.” There was one joke in the first episode of Minami-ke that was actually funny - the one where the girl thought the love letter was a written threat, so she met up with the boy at the appointed place and kicked him. But the joke was so drawn-out that the funniness sifted away. And if I want something simple and sweet that’s NOT bent on also being funny, I’ll go to Chi’s Sweet Home instead of this show, where sisters kissing each other is supposed to be endearing instead of gross.

Sorry, but your personal attack has failed to make me like this show more.
