i vow to never read another manga with school hierarchies LOL
they annoy the crap out of me...

Although that is the trend as you say - so avoiding it is hard
and its not like i don't enjoy reading them (ouran, vampire knight, hana yori dango)
but ya.. i dont really want to read about rich whiny kids anymore.

I prefer older manga now - specifically because back then they used normal school systems.

I think that is what put me off of this title... although I bought it up anyway because i love arina tanemura's art.
Also I agree the story tries to do too much
So it was hard for me to get into this one...
but im giving it a shot anyhow

hmm... yes, the storyline is a bit complicated and too much, but the characters are okay. I love Takanari,Maora and Ushio. I think fullmoon wo sagashite is better in plot, but Shinshi Doumei Cross has more interesting characters.
But i hate the whole squealing thing over the gold and platinum, and too much fairytale dreams comes true

Yeah I love tanemura, but unlike you I simply adore shinshi doumei, especially mao, haine and ushio. I know some of the characters are stupid, and the storyline is a little bit too melodramatic and silly (like mao actually being the mailman or the whole i-marry-two-people thing) but the drawings and characters are wonderful.
and vampire knight's not too bad either

i like arina tanemura, not her one-shots, but i loved to read time stranger kyoko (though the story had it's flaws), fullmoon wo sagashite (the earlier volumes not so much, but the later ones) and kamikaze kairo jeanne, but i cannot, cannot, cannot force myself to actually like shinshi doumei cross. i've an unread volume 7 lying around, because i forgot to buy volume 6 and i'm not sure if i even want to read it.
the characters are stupid, the storyline is unbelievable (there probably wasn't something like a storyline in the beginning, just "let's draw and see what will happen") oh, and i totally agree with you, the school system, what the...?!!
it's not like i'm not able to enjoy mangas with obscenly rich kids (ouran high school host club) or a school hierarchy (gakuen alice), but i absolutely hate it, when they are idealizing these elements, instead of criticising it or adding a ironical touch .
i do not enjoy special a because of that (combining the worst of both) and i'm not a fan of vampire knight either (perhaps for a different reason. the school system is not very believable, ok, but worse than that, are the l characters. you can reduce them to one dramatic quote, one dramatic expression per character, repeat that over and over again and you have the first 30 chapters of VK, i didn't read any further yet, so i don't know if it goes on like that)
long story short: shinshi doumei cross disappointed me. a lot ._.

(sorry for any (grammar) mistakes that occur, english is not my first language.)

I could believe a school hierarchy to exist, based on donating money or skills but having the students in the lower circle worshiping every step of the higher ones... actually I don't buy that part.
And for some reason Arina Tanemura works don't appeal me... no matter how much I try to read them... my suspension of disbelief works perfectly fine with magic and super human abilities... but when a Tanemura manga is involved it just doesn't work...

Thank you for pointing out the stupidity of school hierarchies. I barely bought it for Vampire Knight (and as the volumes went on, I increasingly didn't) and in Utena it kind of works in a silly-camp way, but most of the time... No more hierarchies! No more Hana Yori Dango boys lording over Yuu Watase's next poor shoujo heroine girl!

[Except in Ouran, because the parody works to AWESOME extent there.]
